Getting Rid of Security Shield Virus (Hopefully!) By Godfrey King In spite of having my laptop protected by a very reputable company plus a registry cleaner I still managed to become infected by something calling itself Security Shield, which arrives on your screen unasked via the internet and suddenly takes over the whole computer. Every program you try to access, up pops a window telling you this is infected with a virus and the only way to get rid of it is to buy their scanner. I borrowed my daughter's computer and looked this thing up on Google. Apparently it is quite well known and requires you to download some software specifically designed to get rid of it but quite how you manage this when Security Shield has blocked your access to the internet was beyond me. Time for a coffee and another think! Having now tried for an hour unsuccessfully to dislodge this nightmare I came up with the idea of re-booting my laptop in safe mode with internet access just to see whether I could download the required software. Then I thought "Before I do the download why don't I run the registry cleaner in this mode first?" and set the scan going. On completion I restarted in normal mode and BINGO, Security Shield is gone. I have now been using my laptop for 5 days since the incident and there has been no return so, fingers crossed, this method appears to work though I am not too sure if it will work if you are not already protected. On the subject of protection I have emailed my AV Protection company for some answers to why their program let this virus through and having done so, why didn't it deal with it. I'll let you all know if and when I get a reply.

If if happens again try this
Ctrl Alt Delete will bring up you Windows Tast Master then hit end tast and it will go away.

Also if you start your computer in safe mode you can restore your computer to before you picked up the virus by doing this. Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, system restore, restore my computer to an earlier time.
